Hello, I’m Evan
I look forward to connecting with you.
I am a licensed clinical social worker with over a decade of clinical experience. I specialize in working with adolescents and adults and much of my experience has been in working with individuals who have experienced trauma, as well as with neurodivergent individuals. I’m experienced in helping individuals who are experiencing depression, low motivation, and anxiety related symptoms.
My prior experience in schools allows for a unique understanding of both the strengths and challenges that arise from differences in executive functioning, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and in advocating for accommodations to help with these barriers. I also enjoy working with individuals who are gifted and talented, athletes, and others on understanding and balancing high performance, expectations, and burnout. Further I enjoy working with parents on means of supporting the unique needs of their family.
I frequently work with both individuals and their families to better understand how systems surrounding clients can impact and support clients. Further, exploring and better understanding client culture, family system, identities, and intersectionality between these and other aspects of clients plays a role in the support I am able to provide.
I believe in using a variety of different therapeutic techniques tailored to each individual. I am trained to provide EMDR, trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy, animal assisted therapy, and a Daring Way Facilitator (Brené Brown’s shame resiliency training). I also pull from a variety of other modalities to best meet the needs of my clients including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Internal Family Systems (parts work).
I enjoy running Therapeutically Applied Role Playing Games, specifically Dungeons and Dragons. I trained to become a certified therapist with Game to Grow, a leader in the utilization of these groups, to aid in social skills, collaboration, social anxiety reduction, and reducing cognitive rigidity.
Building rapport is an integral part of successful therapy. I find that my varied interests make this easier for many of the people that I work with. I'd be just as happy discussing sports (whether it be my beloved Michigan State Spartans, Arsenal, or the or the Detroit Lions ), Dungeons and Dragons (I'm both a DM and a level 4 Bard), Music, Books (Fantasy is my favorite), video games, or snowboarding. Monty, my chocolate lab will be taking his therapy dog test this summer, so that he’ll be able to join me at work!
I love to share my knowledge and expertise, and have had the opportunity to present at the Therapeutically Applied Geek and Gaming Summit (TAGGS23) in 2023 on the work I’ve done with Dungeons and Dragons. I’ve also had the opportunity to present as part of a panel on ways that community mental health organizations can be ready to aid in the aftermath of disaster response and mass violence events at MHCA Conference in 2022. I also volunteer with the National Mass Violence Center where I provide consultation to people working with communities in their recovery from mass violence.
Montgomery!
This is Montgomery, aka Monty. Monty is a therapy dog in training, and will join the MMCC team when he passes his therapy dog test this summer. Evan is very excited to have him join the team, and to bring another dog into sessions and group!
