Summer to School Plan

Creating a transition plan to help children/teens, parents and families shift from summer to school more seamlessly.

Let’s cut straight to the chase:

Parents: Whether you are new to the summer to school transition or you’ve done this for years and now your child is nearing the end of their high school career, the transition from summertime routine (or lack there of) into the school routine can be challenging, anxiety ridden, overwhelming and even frustrating. For some, it may be smooth sailing a few weeks or maybe even months, and then it starts to get tough again. Cue the arguments over incomplete assignments, begging to use the iPad and or stay at a friend’s house. There is no playbook for this, but the summer to school planner may be helpful.

Teens: Many of you have had a great summer. Days filled with friends, fun, staying up late, sleeping in, and maybe working part-time. Or maybe that isn’t the case for you and you may have not had a great summer and are ready to put this one behind you. Many of you may be excited to get back to school, some not so much, and some may have a solid mix of emotions. Let’s remember what is in your control and get to planning, keeping in mind: “fail to plan, plan to fail.” Your nervous system will thank you later when it has a solid routine, you and your parents are on the same page, you are working towards more privileges, negating the gray area and anticipating what to expect. Use this tool to be a part of the conversation and have your voice heard!
